Aldermaston is situated in the Kennet valley in West Berkshire, 17 km (10.5 miles) west of Reading, 15 km (9.5 miles) east of Newbury and 17 km (10.5 miles) north of Basingstoke. To travel by road to Aldermaston: From Reading and M4 junction 12: take A4 west, then A340 south. From M4 junction 13/A34: take A339 south, then A4 east, then A340 south. From Newbury/Thatcham: take A4 east, then A340 south. From Basingstoke and M3 junction 6: take A339 north, then A340 north. To travel by train: Aldermaston station is on the Reading to Newbury railway line and is served by First Great Western. The railway station is at Aldermaston Wharf, which is about 3 km (1.7 miles) north of Aldermaston village. Click here to view timetable (the local service is on pages 71 to 85). To travel by bus: Newbury Buses (services 104 and 105) connect Aldermaston with Newbury, Thatcham, Tadley and Savacentre on the outskirts of Reading. Nearby Tadley is 3.5 km (2.2 miles) south of Aldermaston village and is served by Reading Buses (services 143 and 148 from Reading via Mortimer) and by Stagecoach (line 1 from Basingstoke).
